Entrepreneurs from abroad can immigrate to Canada permanently under the country’s business immigration program, the Start-Up Visa (SUV). Entrepreneurs and their founding teams (up to 5 partners) may use this program to move permanently to Canada if they have an innovative business idea and meet other qualifications.

The Entrepreneur Start-Up Visa Program is the first of its kind globally and a groundbreaking Canadian immigration pilot program. This program connects eligible entrepreneurs with Canadian private-sector organizations that provide funding, guidance, and expertise to help launch and operate a business in Canada. Successful applicants are granted permanent residency in Canada, making this an excellent opportunity for innovative business owners to establish themselves in a thriving economy.

To be eligible for the Start-Up Visa Program, you must meet the following requirements:

  1. Have a Qualifying Business:

    • You must own at least 10% of the voting rights attached to all company shares.
    • Along with the designated organization, you must collectively hold at least 50% of the voting rights attached to all company shares.
  2. Have a Letter of Support from a Designated Organization:

    • Secure support from a venture capital fund, angel investor group, or business incubator.
    • To gain this support, you need to pitch your business idea and convince the organization of its potential.
    • The pitching process varies by organization. If successful, you’ll receive a letter of support, which must be included in your visa application.
  3. Meet Language Requirements:

    • Take a language test from an approved agency.
    • Achieve a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 5 in English or French across speaking, reading, listening, and writing.
  4. Provide Proof of Funds:

    • Demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to support yourself and your dependents upon arrival in Canada.
    • The required amount depends on your family size.

You must fulfil all 4 eligibility conditions for the Start-up Visa Program in addition to the requirements for entry into Canada in order to be eligible. Contact us for a detailed assessment.

You must first convince a designated organization to fund your start-up company by presenting your business idea to it. A designated organization will send a commitment certificate to the corresponding Canadian office and provide you with a letter of support if it decides to assist your project.

The procedure for submitting your concept to each designated organization differs. You must get in touch with the specified organization to learn the requirements for requesting its assistance. If you satisfy all requirements for qualifying, you can submit a finished application that includes your letter of support.

To find out how to obtain its support, you must get in touch with the designated organization. You must persuade the group that your business concept is one they should support. Each organization has a different method for presenting ideas. Every organization has unique needs. For instance, you might be required to give a live presentation of your business idea or submit a thorough business plan.
A letter of support will be provided if you and the specified group can agree. When submitting your application, you must attach this letter. This is the evidence you need to present to demonstrate the support your business idea has from the venture capital fund, angel investor group, or business incubator. A commitment certificate will also be delivered directly to the Canadian office by the organization. They evaluate your application using both the organization’s commitment certificate and the letter of support you provided.

First, your company idea will be evaluated for viability by the selected organization(s) from which you are seeking support.

If you have got the support required to apply, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada will then assess your immigration application to determine whether you are qualified to become a permanent resident.

Finally, an independent peer review procedure may be applied to your submission. This is done to prevent fraud and to make sure that both your activities and those of the approved organization adhere to the norms set by the industry for this kind of service.
