Yukon Community Pilot (YCP) Guide

The Yukon Community Pilot (YCP) is a new stream of the Yukon Nominee Program. The YCP launched in 2020 and will run until June 2025.

If you have a valid nomination for permanent residence from Yukon, you may be eligible for a 2-year location-restricted open work permit under the YCP.

This work permit:

  • let you work for up to 3 different employers in 1 of the participating Yukon communities
  • is valid for 2 years
  • doesn’t need a Labour Market Impact Assessment

The participating communities are:

  • Whitehorse
  • Watson Lake
  • Dawson City
  • Haines Junction
  • Carmacks
  • Carcross

Applications for the Yukon Express Entry stream are always welcome. Eligible candidates must construct an Express Entry profile to apply to the stream. Both the candidate and the employer must provide proof of their eligibility once they have each received a legitimate job offer from a company.

To qualify for the work permit, you must:

All the following conditions must be met by the jobs you’re offered:

  • They must all reside in the same Yukon community that is participating.
  • Each of them must total at least 30 hours of work every week (equal to a full-time job)
  • They need to be perpetual
    This typically means that you have regular, steady, and scheduled employment throughout the year.
  • The pay must be at least as high as the minimum wage.
  • Your experience must demonstrate that you can carry out the responsibilities of the jobs being offered.

You need the following paperwork before you can apply for a work permit:

  • A copy of the government of Yukon’s letter of nomination stating that you have been proposed for permanent residence
  • A formal letter of support from the Yukon government that reads:
  • That the companies hiring you need you to start working in the neighbourhood right away
  • That the employment offers are real
  • The specifics of the employment offers, such as:
  • Occupation
  • Number of hours
  • Job locations
  • Names of the employers

The work permit application must be made online. Paper applications are not accepted.

Depending on where you are applying from, you must use specific application forms and complete specific procedures.
